Knowing the tasks of the Board of Education helps you to utilize this organization as needed.
A Board of Education will be attached to one school, or a number of schools in a particular area, and be responsible for making the day to day decisions which affects the school and how it is run. The board will be elected and include members of the local government, as well as representatives of the school (the superintendent) and others in a position of local authority.
Generally the Board of Education will meet every month, or couple of months to discuss policies and initiatives, and from time to time will also hold public meetings where they can answer questions from and be accountable to the general public, usually the parents of the children who attend the particular school.
The Mission Statement
While the mission statement for each Board of Education will differ slightly, generally they all have the same tasks and goals, to provide all of their students with an efficient system offering them the greatest opportunity possible to expand their knowledge and skills, increased learning opportunities and research involving students, parents and also other members of the higher education community. They strive for:
- The highest student achievement possible
- A skilled workforce with economic development – a school can only be as good as the teachers who teach in it
- Maximum accessibility for the community – the many resources of a school can be a great asset to the whole community
- Good quality and efficient services in all areas
